This Hainanese Porridge has a long history and was said to be one of the popular porridge stalls in Singapore. When we arrived at the coffee shop on a Public Holiday morning, most of the tables were already taken up. A basic bowl of porridge cost $3 and we have topped it up with additional egg and century eggs. Pork porridge contains innards and minced meat. The texture of the porridge was smooth and consistent, added with both spring and fried onions, enhancing its taste. Pork Porridge with Egg & Century Egg - $4 The taste of the ingredients had told me that the porridge was carefully prepared. The pig stomach contains slight hints of pepper while the minced meat contains chopped ginger taste. They were all well marinated. Fried garlic and "Dong Cai" (preserved vegetables) was also used. The entire bowl of porridge was flavourful and better than my expectations. Overall, we spent about 30 minutes of wait for the bowls for porridge but if you were to ask me, I felt that it's well worth the wait. I can say that it is the best bowl of porridge that I have so far.

I got a takeaway for the standard pork porridge with century egg and an egg (I know... the cholesterol), in which I was warned by the lady that it had liver and stomach - I wanted the works! The porridge was well-seasoned and it was had the home-cooked consistency, and I prefer the smooth consistency, but it was still yummy. It came with lots of fried dough crullers, and the pork and innard pieces were well-seasoned and tender, and not overcooked or chewy at all. I did however, enjoy the minced pork the most. I would come back, but perhaps have the minced pork porridge - though I wouldn't mind the regular mixed one too! Yum.

If you are missing or finding it hard to find the simple pork porridge of the 1980s (or maybe 1970s), you can give this place a try. This is not the Cantonese style of porridge. Prices start from $2.50 and besides pork porridge, you can add or mix it with cuttlefish or fish. There are also fish and chicken porridge. You can add egg to it, and it comes with pieces of fried dough stick (you tiao). Unfortunately they do not sell extra portion of the you tiao, so bring your own if you like lots of that. I had the mixed pork porridge without realizing it came with meatball, pork slices, liver and intestine (or maybe it was stomach). You could just request for just meat ball and pork slices if you do not take offal. I guess for nostalgic reason and because I grew up having pork porridge when young and this came very close to it, this place deserves a 5-star. The $2.50 bowl looked small, but it was very filling.

The hainanese pork porridge over here is fantastic! Its considerably thicker than your average canton porridge, and possibly slightly more enjoyable. There's a load of minced pork and pork slices that they add into the porridge amongst other ingredients like egg, you tiao and pork liver. You can also choose to add century egg if you're feeling it. Its a great fix for breakfast or lunch!

If you are looking for some comfort food, this is the stall to be at. The Hainese porridge is flavorful and filled with lots of ingredients. You can choose from chicken/pork with/or sliced fish/cuttlefish. Often, the uncle will ask if you want to add egg (chicken egg or century egg). The serving is very generous. For a small eater like myself, a small potion often seems way too much for me to stomach. Do prepare to wait at least 20-30 minutes if you patronize the stall during breakfast and lunch. Hahaha, if you are like my colleagues and I, we often go for the most sinful option which is to ask the uncle to add both egg and century egg.
